Well, I wasn't dying a lot per se, I'm just saying that there were certain parts that you'd have to eventually move up in to get the hose to stop and that sometimes required a bum rush up the middle.

I was playing on Hard, which is 3rd highest as Easy, Normal were below and Veteran is above. I think you can unlock another level of difficulty above Veteran which might be analogous to Doom's Nightmare or Halo's Legendary.

Oh, I also agree that CoD2 made me very thankful I hadn't had to fight in WWII. Especially that level on top of the hill, where you're getting slammed by mortars and whatnot...yikes.

Overall, I loved CoD2. Great single player game. I played the multiplayer for a bit, but I just didn't have the dedication to become one of those spot-you-and-you're-dead players who are all over those servers.

I've played this through (on PC) and I didn't die that frequently...but then, I always play on the "Hurt me Plenty"-level difficulty (from Doom), never "Ultra-Violence" or God forbid "Nightmare." What difficulty were you on?

It's also possible that on the PC I had an easier time of looking around and spotting things. Though the Halo serious optimizes gamepad controls to as good as they probably can get, playing CoD2 on the PC made me realize that the PC set-up really is superior and allows for swifter reaction times.

I completely agree with you on "die and learn" games though. I didn't encounter it too much on CoD2, but there have certainly been other games where there was little choice but to repeatedly sacrifice myself in order to find the end. I recently beat Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, and while most of the game was fine—very little die-and-learn—the last boss was insanely difficult and required one of those special tasks in order to kill him—a special task that would have taken hours to figure out if I hadn't just gone to the Internet in frustration after thirty minutes.
