It was just funny because both Ed and I scratched our heads on the reference, but the Google/Wiki combo revealed it and then we both went, “oh… yeah, we were supposed to get the Simpsons from it,” and then we decided to bust on you anyway.

This is the problem with Blogging. Sometimes it’s hard to read a message and see the author’s smile. I’ve just been busting your chops in a good-natured means. Please don’t take it personally. Once you confirmed it was a Simpsons reference, I remembered the episode and actually got one of those great little nostalgia chuckles.

Sigh…I wasn’t even making a comment on your grammar. “XXX, dead?” is a legitimate grammatical construction, which is why I actually don’t think the Linguo gag quite works in the episode.

All I was trying to do was reference a Simpsons episode. Why??! Why did I ever do it?!

@JFCC: Yes, our Google searches on Linguo revealed the episode of the Simpsons, but we still didn’t get it.

Not that I need to defend myself — I did point out I care not for strictly following rules of grammar here — but I was going for a Captain America [pause] Dead? way to read that. I figured a comma would do just as well as ellipsis, but I certainly was going for an IS. Keep your fancy words and grammar to BBn thank you very much sir!

*sigh* I wish I’d never written in the first place.

In the Simpsons episode “Trilogy of Error”, Lisa creates a robot that corrects bad grammar. Homer says “Me love beer,” and the robot says, “*I* love beer.”

So at the end of the episode, Linguo gets blown up, and Homer picks up the robot’s disembodied head and says, “Linguo…dead?” And the robot says, “Linguo…IS…dead,” then dies.

I was merely making a reference to the way you phrased the title of the post. May God have mercy upon my soul.
