@Juice: The Yankees analogy is the one you hear over and over. I agree that it would be sweet icing, but ultimately, unnecessary.

BTW: Did you just channel Bill Simmons or what? ;)

If any team at anytime goes 19-0 to win the super bowl, nothing about that in this salary cap era of supposed parity would be a diminished accomplishment. That being said I harken back to 2004 when the Sox disposed of the Yankees to win their first World Series in 86 years. Beating the Yanks on the way made winning that much more sweet, avenging not only 2003 and 1978, but no more utterings of "The Curse".

For the Pats to avenge on the Colts after blowing a 21-3 first half lead in the AFC Championship game last year would be sweet redemption. The circumstances of last year's AFC Championship has inspired the Pats to have a 16-0 record, led to every Pats press conference talking about "playing 60 minutes" and the indoctrenation by the press of "The Eff You TD". To have the possibility of going back to the Super Bowl, not having lost a game all year and do it over the team that kept you out the previous year and inspired you to acquire Messrs. Moss, Welker, Thomas and Stallworth would be a pure statement of excellence.

There is something about beating the best to be a champion. When the Celtics played the Rockets instead of the Lakers in the 86 Finals, you wanted to prove how dominant Boston was against the best, and reigning Champs.

Going 19-0 would be historic, beating the Colts on the way would be making out with your arch enemies hot ex-girlfriend right in front of him just to upset him.

Thank you! That's what I wanted someone to say and I inserted that malarkey intentionally. I'm sick of hearing people -- Carrot Top for one -- say that by not playing the Colts it won't matter as much. Puh-leaze! Last I checked, these are all NFL playoff teams that earned their way in.

A diminshed accomplishment? Dude, if they go 19-0 then there is nothing diminshing about that accomplishment. That's History Man. Look at the teams the Dolphins played in their histroic year and then come back and tell me if our accomplishment is diminished.
