It's tough to compile a list of 2007 faves. I don't get to the movies all that often and my NetFlix queue is full of older movies. However, I have to say Juno is certainly tops on my list. It's both sad and hilarious!! Kudos to Diablo Cote for writing it and Ellen Page for her performance! Also nice to see Jason Bateman and Michael Cera together again (why, oh why, did Arrested Development have to go off the air?!).

@ Ed: If you haven't seen them since your post, be sure to catch Walk the Line and The Departed. They are excellent movies.

The Departed and The Prestige were both awesome and they might both crack a revised 2006 list for me... at least The Departed would.

I have Hot Fuzz in my queue somewhere, and yes, Freaks and Geeks is already in my queue too. Both Sarah Marshall and Pineapple are on my list for this year, so perhaps we can grab those as a matinee! Not popcorn flicks, but must-see for sure.

Was just reading about Thunder in the new EW and saw the picture of Downey there. I sure hope it does play well because that is one damn good makeup job. Certainly better than Soul Man or the reverse of the Wayans boys in White Chicks...

Oh, and scary enough, I have seen 27 Dresses too (with Noelle). While not terrible, Juno was certainly a better choice!

You know - I really need to start watching more movies. I think you got me beat last year (not just in theaters - I mean anywhere). And this coming from a former movie critic. I have a whole list of movies that I need to see - for instance, I still haven't seen Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum and am literally chomping at the bit for both. Not literally but you know what I mean.

Right now I have The Departed, Hot Fuzz and The Prestige all awaiting me on my DVR so I'm guessing with my impending surgery and recovery, I'll stop for a spell and actually watch them.

A couple of comments on your list. I'm with you in that while I listed out the Top Movies that I need to see on a Big Screen (for pure spectacle sake) the ones I really seem to enjoy these days are hewn pretty close to your tastes. So - Knocked Up was very high on my own faves for last year and Juno is a Must See for me. Andi saw it with her friends from the Mom's Club (they were going to see 27 Dresses - I talked them out of it and pointed them towards Juno and they all came back saying it was one of the best movies they'd seen in a long while - it literally made them laugh and cry).

I'm a big Apatow fan (if you haven't already - Netflix Freaks and Geeks - I think you'll dig it and you'll get to see all these guys at their beginning). I'm really looking forward to Forgetting Sarah Marshall - which is written by Jason Segel and produced by Apatow. Then this summer, Rogen teams with Franco in The Pineapple Express. I also wanted to see Walk the Line so I'll have to OnDemand when it comes out.

BTW Have you seen the pics of Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder. If you haven't already, Google that. Funny stuff!!!

As for I Am Legend - I'd like to serve the fanboys a big steaming cup of Shut the F@#k up. The book was written in the 50's when traditional vampires (the kind killed by crosses and Holy Water) was still scary. That stuff doesn't work these days, so you had to bring it up to speed. At heart, it's not a vampire or zombie story anyway. It's about being the last man on Earth - the creatures are just one more pitfall to surmount. And with said, Smith sold that tragic despair. I found the film haunting and Smith's performance really shoud have gotten him an Oscar nod - who cares if it was in a sci-fi horror flick - that was some damned fine acting.

Besides, the only think that matters is the author, Richard Matheson, is still alive and raved about the film so looks like I'm not alone in buying those whiny bitches a drink.
