Ah yes, shows like Threshold and Invasion were ones that caused us to become so skeptical of any new show like them. (Although really, we could go as far back as Harsh Realm to say that.) High concept and expensive new shows suddenly weren't sure hits like Lost. And really, why would they be? I will be cautious with Flash Forward too, but look at this year, Fringe survived and so did Dollhouse. Speaking of that, you should check out Dollhouse while I check out Fringe.

You know my start-stop-start-stop-start relationship with Fringe. I'm going to have to catch up as well, as it's clear from the excellent finale (SERIOUSLY - there has never been a season ender that has made me want to see the next season right the next minute as much as this one did) - anyway, it's clear I missed some of the fantastic mythology they've constructed. I had heard talk that Fox was spinning this as more of a stand-alone monster-of-thr-week show but JJ was up to old tricks. He may have started that way but that's not how he ended it. And it wasn't just the last episode. The last few I saw all lead into each other organically. Let's just say that this show is waving it's Sci-Fi freak flag proudly and I love that. Also, if you enjoyed the Star Trek reboot, there are some shared themes going on here. That's all I'll say. And the very last image was absolutely balls-out killer. Seriously, JJ has stones for what he's posited in those last few frames. Good stuff.

So, next season sees me anticipating Fringe in the Fall along with Friday Night Lights (thanks to my DirecTV). I'll check out V at midseason. I think Flash Forward will be a casualty if it doesn't catch on quickly so I may DVR it and wait on the numbers. I've heard mixed buzz about the pilot. Also, Goyer and Braga last worked together on Threshold, which lasted all of 4 eps.

Next season really looks like me continuing to watch the shows I already watch. And what will I do when Lost is done. There goes 16 weeks of columns.
