Year in consumables: 2010 movies (so far)
Last year I chose to cover movies I watched on a monthly basis in a Flixd series and planned to continue that this year, but I fell a bit behind and then felt like I wasn’t watching quite as many movies per month as last year. Of course, the television season had something to do with that, but also a bit more gaming at the start of this year than last.
However, I figured why not do a mid-year catch up post instead and then see what happens. Which then also leads me to thinking I should do the same for music–a lot of great discs have already dropped this year–and games. So, here is the first installment, although I’m not so sure about the name.

Year in consumables: 2009 music
Does the music post have different rules than the games or movies post? Of course it does. But, that changes this year. In the past, it has allowed for the ranking of anything that I picked up during the year while the list in the Audio pages for that year would only rank stuff from that year. No more.

Year in consumables: 2009 movies
Every year it seems I debate how to approach this list. Is it based on the movies from the year that I actually viewed during that year? Any movie I viewed that year? Any movie that came out in that year that I have seen as of the date this is posted?
Traditionally it is the first of those choices and I double checked last year’s post and that’s what I did. I guess I can stick with tradition, but it kind of sucks. I can tell you right now that the best movie I watched during 2009 was Slumdog Millionaire, but that came out in late 2008. The best movie I have seen from 2009 was The Hurt Locker, but that was this past January (2010). Both would top the list for their given year of release, but that’s not how I am doing the list. Year in consumables: 2009 games
Here, finally, is the first post in my year-end wrap-up series that I call Year in Consumables. People like making lists and reading lists, particularly if you are a little OCD. Which I am.
I just pulled up my first post in the series from last year and it happened to be the Games one as well, so let’s just stick with the same order from last year: Games, Movies, Music. That might be a little OCD too.
I am going to have to break somewhat from history in that I am only going to rank five games this year. Mostly because I didn’t really play much. Well, much depending on your point of view. I do find it funny that on last years post I mention having not yet played Fallout 3 or Tomb Raider: Underworld. I still haven’t. I still plan on it. Really.

Happy blue year
Well, I started the year with a sunset, so why not end the year with a moonrise. What? Yeah, I guess it kind of works out. (Unlike any of those resolutions.)
I was lucky enough to be driving over the NY border into CT as it was rising, so I stopped to take a few photos. “Lucky” because once I got back to Boston tonight it was overcast and you couldn’t see it at all.

K cards
Welcome to the summer, or rather, the “blog days of summer” as I like to call them, where not a whole lot of blogging happens! When it does, you don’t care. You’ll understand more when you read my next Flixd post. It won’t be pretty for almost all of you. I do have some other stuff in mind for you coming soon though. Kind of half year check-ins on the consumables idea.
Anyway, I figured I’d toss this up to put that first bit of info out, but also because Ed hit a number that needed capturing for eternity on the internets.
So, these aren’t the baseball kind of K cards (which you’d normally associate with summer), but rather, those that celebrate Xbox Live Gamerscore milestones. But, they just changed their site design and these don’t look like cards anymore; at least the parts that kept from the screen cap don’t. Year in consumables: 2008 music
Here it is, the last post in the series (games, movies) for the year and the one that no one cares about. Okay, maybe a couple friends on Facebook will care. Maybe.
So, this one works pretty much like all the others in that I write about what I consumed this past year. That said, this one does have a wrinkle. Year in consumables: 2008 movies
I am still ahead of the curve from last year, so I don’t feel too badly about delaying this post a couple weeks from when I thought I’d get it out. It was my intention to watch a handful more movies released in 2008 to see if they’d make my top five for the year. I watched them, but they won’t make the list.
Also, I realized that I should do this list like I do the others, movies that I consumed during that year and not necessarily released. I’m still not sure about that as a criteria or not because as I Netflix stuff it can be pretty old — if you count 2-3 years ago as old — and may seem out of place.
