(My) Telefizzled w.15

A couple notes to start this off. First, I am losing track of week counts and how I was really trying to track that number. I thought from start of season, but not sure anymore, so I just skipped ahead another week because this one covers two weeks like the last one did. My feeling is there is a week in there somewhere that nothing was on, but really, who cares, right?

Second, I tweaked the title for this one because this week marked the return of my favorite show on these days. Of course, that show is Scrubs and you knew that because you know that almost every episode title starts with “My” since JD is your narrator. Fun trivia, there are seven episodes not starting with “My,” but instead with “His” (4), “Her” (2) and “Their” (1). Okay, I am kinda a Scrubs nerd and if didn’t already know, I have a man-crush on Zach Braff.

This week seemingly starts television’s second season. We are starting to see mid-season replacements and/or starts of shows like Scrubs, 24 (anyone still watching that?) and Lost (next week). Other shows that have been running this season are also going to start back up this week. Finally, as Ed points out today, Friday Night Lights is back on network television this week. I still have some to catch up on from last season once I got back on the horse. I have them recorded on Media Center, but I think Netflix streams them in HD, so maybe that is my best route. Anyway, on with regular programming…

Eli Stone: I am going to guess this one was the second to last episode of this series. I guess the point here is that Eli is the man that every woman wants, yeah? I mean, his brother’s fiancee basically leaves him the day of the wedding because she realizes she does still have feelings for Eli despite only having taken his virginity in college. Kinda hard to base all that emotion on two minutes of past history. So, Nate and Eli are at odds, but we know that they end the series with some kind of resolution between the two and their dead father, Tom Cavanaugh. (Incidentally, he might be second on my man-crush totem poll. I just realized this.)

Scrubs: So good they show two episodes a night and they even repeated both the night after their premiere. Best thing about the show now being on ABC? It is now, finally, in HD. Other thing I noticed was it seemed to be a lot darker in the hospital, but maybe that was because it was usually nighttime? Regardless, a good start to the season by introducing Courtney Cox as Dr. Kelso’s replacement. Based on this week’s episode blurbs, that isn’t lasting long, which is good and bad. I kinda like her character so far, but Bob Kelso is better. The new interns look like they will be entertaining too. Particularly the cool for no reason guy and the girl with horrible bed-side-manner/social skills.

30 Rock: I like Peter Dinklage. (No man-crush though.) Not sure if writers write his characters this way or if he just always delivers his lines the same way, but I love it. Having seen Elf like three times over the holidays, it is recent-only-stuff, but the guy deserves a regular gig somewhere. Maybe he likes the variety though. As for the regular Rock cast, it was the usual for me. Baldwin is always on and Fey and Morgan about half the time. Everyone else is noise. Okay, except occasionally McBrayer. Not much Lemon in this one, but Morgan’s little start with the money clothing and on-the-spot-sex-with-wife bits were on. Salma Hayek appears without much fanfare, which is shocking since this show always pimps the big names. In fact, it took me until her second scene to realize it was her. Dr. Spaceman this week, so it has to be good.

The Hills: Okay, I watched the season ender last week. Can you believe LC talked to Heidi? Can you believe that Spencer did something slightly not totally douchie? I know, I really can’t help myself. I think it is because this show is half real and I like to narrate it myself as I watch. Unlike…

The City: I watched the first two episodes. I realized that MTV planted the seeds for this one even earlier on in this season’s Hills than I previously thought. Anyway, this show is totally full of it. You couldn’t even call this one a quarter reality since the whole damn thing was a setup from the start. Also, it is very derivative of The Hills, to which you’ll say, duh! Whitney was probably good in small doses on The Hills, but I can’t see this working out the same here. The other characters aren’t intriguing at all. I really, really shouldn’t be getting this deep here. Suffice to say, I’m not going to watch this one unless I am totally bored and it catches my eye on a trip thru OnDemand. Score one for manhood!?

Lastly, here’s my updated regular schedule. I cleared out anything struck out from the first part of the year so I can track what fizzles out going forward. Shows not starting for a while that I know I will watch or check out are in italic.

  • Tuesday: Scrubs, Reaper
  • Wednesday: Lost
  • Thursday: Smallville, The Office, 30 Rock

Any suggestions for shows to add or check out?
