Scooper bowl

Let’s take the lactose intolerant kid to the Scooper Bowl.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Really.

Okay, so maybe not a good plan, but it happened nonetheless… and no, I didn’t explode or anything like that. I probably should have planned ahead and gotten some of those pills that suppress it or whatever, but I’ve never used them before, so why start now? Right?

Anyway, I finally got to experience my first Scooper Bowl now that I work in Boston full-time. I’m not real sure why they don’t do this over a weekend, maybe a Friday-Sunday instead of a Tuesday-Thursday, but whatevs. It is for a good cause — $8 goes to the Jimmy Fund all you can eat goes in your stomach — and I’m sure they had plenty of takers. Sure was packed enough when Noelle and I hit it up on the Wednesday night… two weeks ago! (Yes, I am late in writing about this, but more on that later.)

So, if you want the stats, I got 10 scoops down — they give you one per cup — and thought it better to not continue. Each vendor had about 4 flavors to try, so I grabbed an average of 2 from each. All very good stuff and I hit pretty... Continue reading »

Lego vault

This link made my day and I found it quite by accident on the del.icio.us homepage this afternoon. I was grabbing the del.icio.us Firefox extension at work and happened upon it. (I’m an Engadget guy, not a Gizmodo guy.)

Anyway, the story is cool, but the really cool and happy part is the Lego set that set off the author. I think that was my second Lego set ever and the one I thought of as soon as I started reading the article. To my surprise as I continued to scroll down, there it was. What are the odds? The first one I had is also featured in the gallery.

Blocks from those sets are still in my possession. They make up a small bit of the helicopter I still have… the last original Lego creation of mine before I retired. I dontated all the leftover blocks, a crapload of them, to a friend’s little brother my freshman year of college.

Buh bye

Won’t have to hear that much longer… unless she turns up on ESPN.

That’s right, Hazel Mae is goners. Buh bye bombs. She might have burst onto the scene four years ago, but she became old news in my book soon after. By burst, I mean I never cared about her until that Fever Pitch premiere dress she was wearing. That was the event, right? Yup, I found myself prone to become a typical male and stare in awe at her… well… you know. It was quickly downhill from there.

Anyway, shocked to read that she dated doughboy Steve Levy… was she trying to sleep her way into ESPN? Leave it to the Inside Track to give us the good stuff. Ricky Davis? Really? Huh… wait a minute… did Perez Hilton take over this blog???

I find it funny that I got to that Herald story from boston.com too… apparently their related news search doesn’t discriminate against the *competition*… hahaha.

Hey, good luck to her in her next endeavor, right? After all, doesn’t this mean more Kathryn Tappen? She of the Joker smile? Hmm… she’s been sporting bling lately, so she’s sorta dead to me too… Thank gawd ... Continue reading »

RRoD roundup

Well, even though it didn’t matter that much, the second go around with Microsoft’s Xbrick 360 replacement program was smoother than the first. For the most part, it was always informative in what was going on and it was certainly a bit faster. That said, I thought I’d post a little wrapup/roundup for the heck of it. I mean, if I end up using it, it will die again and I’ll have a third opportunity to evaluate the process…

Anyway, it didn’t matter as much because I did go out the day after mine died and pick up a newer Arcade model with the Falcon chip and HDMI port. While I don’t think it is any quieter than the older one, it has been nicer with the HDMI, except for the ghosting, but that is only when I turn it off, never in gameplay, and I think that has more to do with now using HDMI over Component cables as I never noticed it prior to that… so, whatevs. This one has a newer DVD drive too, but it seems to spin just as loud as the older, so no change there either. Bottomline, the only difference I have noticed is the HDMI is brighter, but that could just be a need to adjust the TV brightness… which I might have done on... Continue reading »

Lost: There’s No Place Like Home

So, to echo the end of my comments on Ed’s excellent (as always) post on his site:

Overall, loved this episode. Thought it was really well done in connecting some dots and opening up some new questions. Strike be damned, this season was very, very strong.

It is going to be a long wait for next season.

Oh… hands down: Kate.

Lost and found

I fell behind on watching Lost again, so I caught up by watching the last three episodes in a row last week. I watched the previous two prior to being able to watch last week’s live in HD, so it was a marathon viewing to be sure. In fact, they all blended together quickly on me.

Anyway, for much the same reason I was behind on watching, I was behind on reading Ed’s blog posts and I just now finally had the chance to catch up over there. (Thank you vacation day!) In fact, it wasn’t just that but almost a handful of other posts too. My man is definitely over that writer’s block.

That said, I’m going to break from doing a single aside for each epsiode’s comments here in favor of this single wrap-up. Besides, I don’t want to have to keep saying how hot Kate is in each. I mean, she came back huge on me with those flash forwards… I mean, the dress-shirt-as-jammies thing does it every time, you know? We men are such easy creatures…

Enough of the (wearing thin) joking around, here are the links:

Looking forward to the finale, but also sad to know that’s it for a while. Will it keep us talking over the Summer and Fall? Based on how it has been going, how would it not? These guy’s are too good…

No-no

Wow!

I mean… WOW!

This kid is special, right? Completes the sweep for the second Sox Series and now a no hitter. Wow!

Inspiring stuff. Really. It is hard to come up with the words.

I wish I got to see it. I didn’t watch the game tonight. In fact, I haven’t seen any of the four no-hitters that Varitek has caught. Apparently that’s a record too. However, I did see the first MLB starts for the last two guy’s; Lester and Buchholz. That’s a weird coincidence.

I know someone who had tickets to tonight’s game and decided to sell them because he had already been to like four games in April. Can’t wait to see his reaction. At least he sold them to another guy at work.

Wow!

Shiny bits

At long last, here are the shiny bits.

I know, it is plain, but not as plain as what came before it, right?

Well, this is pretty much all the shine that is going to be around here. I’m going to move on to some feature bits. In fact, the reason getting the shiny bits out here took a little longer was due to taking a feature bit out as I didn’t feel it was quite ready yet. (Oh, and working a lot.)

Anyway, I won’t be working quite as crazily as I have been lately, so now I’ll feel up to coding a bit when I get home at a reasonable hour. Oh, and that means I can catch up on telly too. And Xbox. And comics (really!). And blogging.

You’ve heard this before. I know.

You don’t believe me. I know.

I can tell this because many have stopped dropping by as of late. I don’t blame you. Why would stop by if I’m not, right? Continue reading »

RRoD

+2

Another one bites the dust.

At first, I thought The Simpsons Game was just glitching when Lisa blew a Saxophone attack and Marge was coming back to health. Then, it froze again on another big, loud event a minute after I started playing again. That was an exploding car. The third time happened about 10 seconds after I fired it up. The fourth power on was greeted with the Red Ring of Death.

Apparently this animal is not in danger of extinction.

Now, the current system was *manufactured* on 2007-08-23, therefore it has the older 90nm Zephyr chipset. It was the replacement for my first Red-ringed 360 last Fall. I have no idea what will be sent back this time, so tomorrow, I am going out to buy a Xbox 360 Arcade system. No, I am not playing GTA IV, I am playing The Simpsons Game (the one that revolves around Marge’s quest against an Itchy and Scratchy game of the same genre ) and Army of Two (with Ed) at the moment, but I am not waiting 3-4 weeks for a replacement given I use mine as a Media Center Extender and unlike last time, there are new shows being recorded that need watching in the living room. (Nice run-on dude.) This is especially true g... Continue reading »

Lost: The Shape of Things to Come

Yeah, one may wonder if my lack of blogging over April had anything to do with Lost not being on… well, you’d be wrong. It wasn’t that in as much as it was me not wanting to spend time writing until the Shiny Bits were done and being very, very busy at work these last 3+ weeks.

Well, the bits are just about there, as in you’ll see them by Monday, and I have a lot of writing to do once they are out there, but in the meantime, I had to post this aside about last week’s episode of Lost since I just read Ed’s post and left my comments there.

Anyway, easily the best episode of the year and, perhaps, the series!

(Oh, and Claire looked hot after getting blowed up.)
