Broomed

Sweeping out another month here. I started off stronger this month, but again, fell off with the posting. This was going to be a Sox-centric post, but let’s get some catching up out the way first since it has been two weeks since my last post.

Well, over those last two weeks, I have had to do a good amount of writing at work, so that saps my will to write here. While I don’t mind the occasional need to write a piece of technical documentation, mostly because I’m good at it, I must give kudos to the full-time technical writers out there. I don’t know how you don’t just drink yourselves into oblivion in preparation for work each day. Oh, wait… you probably do.

Anyway, today I had to update my appraisal/review form with my six month results towards my objectives. That’s fun. Especially since we’re really doing eighth month results… and, why am I writing this myself again? I’m sorry, but if I am a manager, there’s no way I have my folks doing this themselves. It is time better spent on their job and something I should be tracking myself. They read it, we meet and they provide feedback. Done.

While it was fun to try and match my accomplishments to the generic, business-speak objectives in the form, it was good practice for this weekend’s activity. I have to finish updating my resume. One has nothing to do with the other. Mostly.

If you were wondering, my Xbox 360 apparently made it to Texas. Now I have to wait to see if I get it back before Halo 3 drops. Ed is pulling away again in the Gamerscore category by completing his research of Little Sister (amongst other things) in BioShock. I can’t wait to see what that’s all about. As of now, he’s almost up a full thousand points on me.

So, speaking of sweeping, the Sox got swept by the Yankees (obviously!). Thank gawd it is over! I am so sick of the hype machine media when they play. Seriously, it is so old now. Get over it. These two teams are always going to play each other at .500 as long as they stay at the same payroll and talent level. If Boston takes two of the last three games in the series, they’ll end up even at nine wins a piece.

Fact of the matter is, the Sox destruction of the other Sox last weekend, coupled with the Tigers beating up the Yankees, made this week’s series meaningless. I don’t mind that we were swept, but I did figure we’d take at least one game; that being the Beckett game. I wanted Josh to beat his idol, the Sox to beat up Clemen$ and score the first run off Joba Chamberlain. None of that happened.

We did have Joba buzzing Youk’s tower. Twice. Me thinks the rook has been watching too many movies or maybe Baseball Tonight. Those BBTN guys keep wondering when the Yankees will plunk Ortiz or Manny as they feel they are always a little too comfortable. Meanwhile, the Sox fire them at Jeter all the time. Kid, if the Sox needed buzzing, it would have been handled by the Rocket.

Well, maybe this little sweep gives the ammo the Yankees need to get the Wild Card. They are there now, but let’s see if they can hold it. I don’t think they’ll take the division from us and I am hoping that either the Tigers or Mariners can take the Card. I don’t want to see the Yankees in the playoffs for two reasons: 1) I want to see what happens in the Bronx if they actually don’t and 2) I don’t want to face them in the ALCS. Not because I am afraid of them, but because we’ve been there, done that. We don’t have to go thru them to get to the Series. Going thru the Angels, Indians, Tigers or Mariners will be plenty difficult, if not more so than going thru the Yankees.

Lastly, let me leave you with this piece by Eric Wilbur today on boston.com. I don’t like this guy and I think I have bashed him before. The Sox lost because of J.D. Drew’s personality? Really?
