No Perfect Circle

A circle is 360 degrees. The Xbox 360 has a ring of light. A ring is also a circle, unless it is a boxing ring. The Xbox 360 has made me want to hit things, so I guess that works too. A circle may be perfect, but so far my experience with the 360 has been anything but perfect.

I took delivery of the Xbox 360 almost a month ago and so ended a four month quest to obtain the sacred ivory gaming crack. I cataloged that adventure in a previous post titled A Tale of Two 360’s. That was only half the story. Okay, really it was like 2/3 of the story because it was so frickin long. Here’s the rest. Maybe…

So, if you remember, there was much excitement upon delivery. I went straight to Best Buy following Aria’s Christening apres-ski. I loaded up with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GRAW), Continue reading »

Kurt

Twelve years ago today, Kurt Cobain‘s body was found. Hard to believe it has been that long.

Nevermind was the the first grunge album I purchased and I got it on January 19th 1992. Yeah, a little late to the party considering it was released September 24th 1991. I purchased 11 other CD’s in the time between and, with the exception of Blood Sugar Sex Magik, I can say the other 10 are crap compared to Nevermind. I won’t recount what those discs were now, and not out of embarassment either. I will fess up that the other disc I bought that day was the soundtrack to JFK. Little did I know both “front men” would die of gun shots to the head.

As I remember it, Nirvana was the band that really kicked off the whole grunge thing and forced it into the mainstream. Yeah, there were other bands before Nirvana — Soundgarden, Mudhoney, The ... Continue reading »

A Tale of Two 360’s

+/- Xbox 360

IT WAS the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way-in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

Don’t be fooled, that’s about as literary as this blog will ever get. I’m just trying to drive home the title of this item, but let me see if I can relate this to the first sentence of the Dickens... Continue reading »

Walk This World

Time to have fun. Time to feel pain. Time to meet the World. Hello World!

Hello World symbolizes a first step in a new environment and geeks the world ‘round use it. WordPress starts every new blog off with it, so how can I resist putting my own spin on it as I Walk This (New) World?

Walk This World is a song by Heather Nova and I thought it a more appropriate title for my first post in the Blogosphere. Certainly has a better ring to it than Hello World, yeah?

I can see I am already losing my fledgling readership — all eleven of you — so I’d better get to the point, which is to say, I haven’t one. Yup, this is a mind dump of pure rubbish. You see, like most blogs, I’m not entirely sure this one will have a point either.

I am no writer. I don’t want to be a writer. I don’t t... Continue reading »
