Year in consumables: 2011 music
So, let’s dispense with the lame blogging to you and your future self theme for the 2011 posts. It was fun for one post and a little forced for another, so time to move on. Plus, it is just about another month later and I’m sure I have something better to use. Which is to say I do not have any ideas and do not want to keep up with trying to hold to a theme. Just going to do a dump of content.
I had a rough year with the music this past year. I went a very long amount of time at the start of the year not listening to anything new, at least in album format. Sure, the radio bombarded me with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes‘–I’m guessing that’s the spelling because I don’t care to look and find out–gawd awful single; in two versions. Yes, they must not have a single other good tune on their album. And I absolutely hated it the first time I heard it as much as the one thousandth. Of course, then there is the everlasti... Viva la vida
Had the pleasure of checking out Coldplay at the Garden this past Monday night. I think that’s worthy of a few short words/thoughts here seeing as how I never go to shows anymore, yeah?
In short, they pwned teh house. Really, really tight show… just… a bit short. They came in at just about 90 minutes. Given they have four stellar albums to pull from, it is a little disappointing, especially what with this being a big arena tour and such. They played pretty much Viva la Vida in its entirety and other than that, a few here and there from the other three discs. Maybe two songs off each? I didn’t jot down a setlist.
The band was tight though and they managed to keep the entire audience in play by moving about the arena a bit. They did a couple short — two song — sets at different locations other than the main stage. One being just in front of the stage on a small, disco floor type platform and the other at one of those handicapped cleared landings between the lower bowl seats and the premium stuff. This was in one of the back corners, so IR... Continue reading »
Zero to Pearl Jam in 50
Okay, so I am going to do a little experiment here and just write whatever comes to mind as I take my first spin thru Pearl Jam. I just picked it up at 7.10 pm and the first song is going to play and it is almost 8.25 pm. Seems like a simple way to make this an addendum to my Pearl Jam = Crap post. Let’s see if the monkey can type and listen to the music at the same time. This might be the fastest review brain dump of an album ever…
Life Wasted Good guitar intro. Hmm…Eddie is singing in that Eddie way again… no f-in idea what he’s saying. Maybe I better bust out this freaky lyric book included in the disc packaging. Pictures look like (insert favorite zombie flick here) meets Photoshop. Once, Go, Last Exit and Brain of J. are all great intros to a disc. This one, not so much…
