Telefizzled out

If I were ambitious enough to dive into the archives, I would look and see what the point was in writing these posts for 34+ weeks. I think it was to show attrition in my scheduled viewing, so we’ll go with that and there was definitely some of that, but not as much as I’d hoped for. You see, I know I don’t watch too much telly, but I watch more than I’d like. Anyway, I am thankful for the break this Summer will afford, although Burn Notice starts back up next week.

So, before I try to remember what has come and gone, let me finish off with thoughts on three last episodes I caught this week and last:

How I Met Your Mother: This one finished up last week. It would seem CBS wanted to go longer than everyone else as a lot of their shows did the same. Anyway, no mother and no yellow umbrella, but it does close out with Ted taking the teaching gig and revealing that the mother is in his class, so I guess we are getting some teacher or student macking for this ... It was an even fuller week than I expected due to the return of Rules of Engagement and Reaper. I watch Rules like I watch Gary Unmarried, it is usually funny enough and it is also good to have a nice half hour of easy comedy to which you can eat your dinner. I likely won’t write much about it after this week and pretty much treat it the same as Gary, which is to not write about it…

Also, I did avoid watching Trust Me this week and I am fine with letting that one go. Will Tom Cavanagh ever get a good regular gig again? Love Monkey was good, so of course it was canned.

Anyway, here’s what I did watch!

Chuck: So, now let’s introduce another romantic rival into the mix for Chuck, but this time instead of him being his thought-to-be-dead-best-friend it is a British super spy. Well, obviously I am not buying it. I’m sure Sarah is interested because it is a fling she can have, much like Chuck with his Ex, but they’ll be back pining for each other in no time. Probably after the next episode. Liked the plumbing double entendre’... Continue reading »

With the Nielsen sweeps starting this month, the schedule is going to fill out again, but for this week, just five shows. Let’s get on with it.

Chuck: More beatdowns of Morgan. I love it. Of course, it didn’t last long, but it was very funny when Chuck sprayed him with the nitrous oxide breath spray. Funnier because I didn’t see the setup of that part from the show opening. (I got home a little late.) Jeffster was about as lame as you could ask for, so therefore, awesome! Chuck didn’t get blowned up and he and Sarah do their little dance for us. Sigh.

Lost: I can never decide if I am a fan of John Locke or not, kinda like Sawyer, but overall, this one felt a little flat to me. I slapped up some comments over on Ed’s post. Very little to choose from this week, so I guess I have to go with house-mom Kate.

30 Rock: This one was all about Tracy. Sure, the Lemon and Kenneth quest to retrieve her phone with... Continue reading »

Light week with a lot of shows in repeat. Now I kinda wish I was going to write about Trust Me and Burn Notice because both were new. I guess that’s what happens with these new cable network shows and that’s a good thing.

Chuck: So it is going to be like that is it? Are they just going to get Chuck or Sarah’s hopes up at the start of each episode and then have the other dash them by the end? Every time? Seems like that these days. Andy Richter, Jenny McCarthy and the creepy alien bounty hunter guy from The X-Files appear as part of a Fulcrum neighborhood watch. They were good for the most part. Richter not totally believable, but he was okay I guess. I wish he could get a regular gig and actually be good at it, or at least the show be good or those around him be good. It always seems like something. Lastly, I like that they are going to torment Morgan by having Big Mike date his madre. He deserves it.

Lost: As always, comments are on The Ed Zone. Booty Call Kate wins! (The joke just... Continue reading »

Wow… twenty weeks of telly so far this year. Of course, that’s not a totally accurate count of the weeks in the season so far. Just the weeks that had something new on for me to watch. Speaking of that, this week didn’t start so well with Chuck and How I Met Your Mother not being on because of the Obama presser. I didn’t even get home in time to watch any more than the last five minutes. I’m sure I can find it easy enough in the tubes, but I don’t want to hear him say “Um” much more. He should probably work on that.

Big Bang Theory: They smartly tucked this one in after that Charlie Sheen show, so yay! for saving my Monday night. Christine Baranski was awesome as Leonard’s mom. She actually managed to get her son further along the bases than he could himself. Of course, he blew his chance. The Sheldon interaction with Leonard’s mom was the highlight. I guess singing some Rock Band together was their substitute for sex because surely they would have had it had either had any interest in it, which has (and was) establi... Continue reading »

Weekly schedule is getting pretty full. Time to trim some fat again? Maybe.

Chuck: I don’t think I have ever seen anything in 3D that impressed me. Ever. I am guessing I am not the only one either. To me, in order to pull it off at all, things are added or adjusted to accommodate the gimmick, so it not only looks bad, it is bad. Now, I didn’t have any 3D glasses to watch with, so I had to endure the episode with a lot of RGB fuzz/halo around different people and objects throughout. It might not have been as bothersome in standard definition, but in high definition it was very annoying. I wish they’d just let this alone. As for the story, well it wasn’t a great one. I thought they just blew over explanation from Sarah about killing the Fulcrum dude so much that it didn’t seem important at all. It seemed like it was going to be to Chuck, but maybe not much past 44 minutes. I think it is clear that Dominic Monaghan can only play two characters: a rocker and a hobbit. I suggest he stick with the second one. Also, this guy is an uggo. I don’t un... Continue reading »

No introduction this week.

Trust Me: I figured I would check out this new show on TNT since it features Tom Cavanagh. I recently copped to having a man crush on him, behind Zach Braff of course. Anyway, he and Eric McCormack play buddies in advertising. Monica Potter is along for eye candy. The guy on Life on Mars was their boss and bites it in the pilot/first ep. McCormack gets his job and Cavanagh is mad. They make up by show’s end. Standard pilot/intro stuff, but this might be a good dramedy. I will give it my usual three episode tryout.

Scrubs: Sesame Street daydreams? Brilliant! Elmo and Grover were awesome. Oscar was only good for being paired with Janitor. I am liking the Jo intern best out of the three, but Ed started to win me over a little bit with this one (was he in both eps?). Can’t wait to see Cox tormented as the man. The Jordan/Kelso showdown was classic and disturbing. J.D.’s beard needs to go. Everytime I see it I realize how stupid I look when I haven’t shaved all week. (Reminder to self… again: shave twice a week.)Continue reading »

Yay for the return of Lost! Boo for worms at work!

I had a long four day work week and had to catch up on a lot of telly over the weekend. Unfortunately that included Lost and Friday Night Lights. I really need the HD DVR because watching both of those in standard def is painful. Painful!

No Scrubs because of some inauguration or history or something. Feh.

Big Bang Theory: Sheldon tries to make a new friend. Best part was him making friends with a little girl in the kiddie book section and Leonard pulling him out of there before he was labeled an unintentional sex offender/pedophile. Other than that, kinda weak.

HIMYM: Ted and Barney’s bar and Marshall and Lily’s weird rituals. Well, I can appreciate the gift of beer, so good on Lily for that one. Why didn’t we get to see what happened when the bar owner found the place trashed? Thought this one was a letdown from last week.

Lost: As usual, my comments/thoughts are over on Ed’s post at The Ed Zone. Juliet wins. You kno... Continue reading »
