More grrrl photos

Not really… but, they are of flowers and a sunset

I also added them to some existing photosets, flowers and sunsets, but you are better off seeing just the new ones with those first two links. Don’t forget to look at the flowers in the larger sizes because those thumbnails definitely don’t do them justice.

Another Jimmy Fund challenge

You might recall that last year I issued My Jimmy Fund Challenge. Well, that challenge was met by one person and I am hoping that if I issue it again this year, I can get two people to step up to the plate. Same rules/guidelines apply as last year (click that first link).

This year’s event spans two days (at least on TV and the radio):

  • Thursday, August 16: 10a to 6p
  • Friday, August 17: 6a to midnight

So, extra time for you to make your donation. Might I suggest you hit up their site on the interwebs. It is quick and easy and secure.

I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂

Mistah 10k

Congratulations are in order for Mistah Plow as he ended last night’s Oblivion love-fest by getting an achievement worth 50 points and make his overall Gamerscore exactly 10,000. That’s pretty cool.

Three chins me

I put up some new photos tonight. One, which you can see above (at least at the time of this posting) is of me and my three chins. Yup, I’m now fat. Heck, this post needs a permanent link there…

The new photos were taken while down in Hyannisport and Nantucket a few weeks ago. I was visiting with family and the majority of the photos were of my younger cousins, which are marked family private on flickr. Have to keep these safe from the evil people trolling the interwebs.

There are some of Nantucket, but they are just newer, rinse-and-repeat of other shots I have taken in the past. Others are of the beautiful flowers and bushes around the Hyannisport cottage, which was more like a mansion, right down the street from the Shrivers’ and the Governator. I’m not even kidding.

Remove your hard drive

But what if that is the broken bit?

I got a follow-up e-mail from the Microsofties today. The packaging to service my Xbox has been shipped (which is a little funny when you think about it). They are sending me a box to box and send the 360 back to them. Ed commented on the way Nintendo is handling their hardware failures and I totally agree with him; they are doing it the right way.

Microsoft should send me a loaner console so I can continue gaming while they fix mine. I’m even losing money on the deal because I can’t use my Xbox Live subscription without a console. I read some posts in a message board that some people are being credited an extra month for longer repairs, but it wouldn’t be an issue if I had a loaner, right?

Now, here’s the kicker: “Once we have received your Xbox console at our Service Center. Your Xbox console will be serviced and you should receive it within 4-6 weeks.” Never mind the poor... Continue reading »

Phoned in

What’s this? Three posts in three hours? Oh my gawdz!

I just wanted to point out a few photos I took with my mobile as I was driving home from work tonight (last night???). The rainbow(s) were some of the best I have ever seen and here I am with only my mobile! So much for having expensive camera equipment when you have no secure place to keep it! If only I had a vehicle that had locks that meant something…

Anyway, they were super bright on the ends and wicked fat. There was also sometimes a second rainbow that almost was like a reflection in that the colors were going the opposite way. I don’t recall ever noticing that before when I have seen doubles.

Rush job

So, I finally put my 360 in for service last night. Lucky for me that my procrastination in doing so resulted in skipping the need to wait on a phone queue for a dimwit service rep to barrage me with useless queries about the state of my box.

Over the weekend, the folks at Microsoft launched a service site for the 360 where you could register and track your console after it gets red ringed and sent in for service. Of course, it appears they rushed it as I had numerous issues using the what should be simple to use site.

The first issue was it did not properly show my 360 after I logged in. Now, I had previously registered it under my xbox.com/gamer profile, so since you use your same Windows Live ID to login, it should have found this, but it did not. I logged in and out a few times, but no joy.

I finally decided to give the “Associate a device you registered on the phone with your Windows Live ID” option a shot. What the heck, I didn’t register it over the phone, but you never know. Well, this... Continue reading »

Seven five six

Err… make that seven.

So, the mushroom head did it last night. He’s now King Koopa and has already hit another in his first AB tonight.

I’d congratulate him if I didn’t think he has cheated along the way. See my previous post about that, but at least it is finally over. No more interruptions on ESPN or showing every meaningless Giants game on ESPN 2 every night. I guess I felt the need to comment because I posted that last bit. I didn’t catch it live, but rather cut over to ESPN when Hazel Mae interrupted D.O. and the Remdawg during another loss to the Halos. At least he showed some class in thanking other people and genuine emotion for his Dad. He’s still got some good in him.

But, the man with real class, Hank Aaron, finally broke his silence on the subject and came out and congratulated Barry. Man, was that more awkward than Selig’s act? I gotta think so, but you know, it was a good way for the man holding the real record to remind everyone of just that, so I’ll congratulate The Hammer instead of The Mushroom.

Single asterisk

Yesterday, someone asked ask.com, “what does holding up an asterisk mean?”

That person (and apparently ask.com) thought my blog had the answer.

I’m sure this person saw some of the asterisk signs in the Petco Park outfield section where Barry Bonds’ 755* home run landed on Saturday night and just didn’t get it. Okay, so not a baseball fan and definitely not aware of 61*, but not a fan of Billy Crystal? I thought everyone was?!

Well, I’m not certain they got the answer here, but maybe ask.com ended up serving them the knowledge they desired. Oh, and I am not a fan of Billy Crystal. Just thought I’d make that clear.

Anyway, in reading the post they found, I’m not certain they got their answer here. I can tell you that after reading this one, like reading the Lego Star Wars related one I mentio... Continue reading »

Red ringed

Well, it finally got me. I am now a victim of the so-called Red Ring of Death.

Of course, this has already happened to both Ed and Jason, so it is not exactly new, just new to me. Kind of funny that it would happen just after I posted about going over 10k with my gamerscore and so did my Xbox. Of course, one wonders how it continues to post blog entries.

Perhaps it is when I can get it to run for a about a minute before it freezes. You see, after getting the ring, it hasn’t happened again, but it will freeze almost exactly a minute after booting up. I have tried the suggestions on support page for both issues with no joy. I am going to have to finally contact Microsoft about this as my hopes that... Continue reading »
