Posts about the crap I watch on the telly. At least it is the fake, scripted kind and not the reality, scripted kind.
Tellyman: Week Two
So, continuing a new theme of talking about shows on the telly every week, this is week two. In case you don’t get it, my title this week and last is trying to play on the Batman: Year One and Year Two comic stories. I’m not Tellyman and I don’t know who is. Maybe he has utility belt, but not a slightly-too-young-sidekick.
Yeah, I know…
I don’t know how much longer I will really keep this up, but I at least planned on doing it for the first three weeks since debuts are spread out over that time. Anyway, here’s what I think of week two…
This past week saw the series debut of Heroes and season premiere of Smallville, so I guess an extra dose of comic book type viewing. The image above is from a web comic on the nbc.com site to promote Heroes. The book is penciled by Michael Turner and K... Continue reading »
Tellyman: Week One
For most of us, this week kicked off the first week of the new television season. Sorry, I don’t watch any of the crap on FOX, although that will change when 24 starts up until they kill off Eddie.
Oops, check that… I have watched the first two episodes of ‘Til Death. The giant from Ray doesn’t nothing for me, but I was interested to see what Eddie Kaye Thomas would do on the show and that Kat Foster, who plays his wife, is a little cutie. Thomas is playing it too straight as an assistant principal at the school in which the giant next door neighbor teaches. Of course, the show sucks much ass and I wasted 44 minutes — thank you Media Center — of my life. I knew it would, but I had to make sure. I’m still bitter that Off Centre was cancelled over on UPN, but whatever.

Fox just found a way to get me to watch 24 this season, well at least try to watch it…again. Where Elisha Cuthbert failed, Eddie Izzard may succeed. As I stated in the My Super Ex-Girlfriend review, I am a big fan. I’m guessing he’s going to channel his inner *action transvestite* for the role as new baddie Darren McCarthy.
Peter is Back!
He’s only part-time, but I am so happy to see this day. Peter Gammons is one of my favorite writers of all time, and I’m not just talking sports. I shed a couple tears reading his piece, “One of the luckiest people on the earth.” You should read it too.
I’m sorry I wasn’t home to see him on air. Hopefully they’ll repeat tonight.
My Syndication
I am very excited for this Fall’s new TV season right now, and not just because new TV is starting up. The other reason is I have found that Scrubs is being shown on Channel 56 at 12.30 am and they have started with the Season 1 Pilot last night. This is awesome as I get to watch the old episodes in a row to start the season off.
But, it gets better. Comedy Central has also picked up the rights and are showing TWO episodes a night at 7.00 and 7.30 pm. They also started with Season 1, so they are already four episodes in as I write this. Media Center has them locked in so I can watch them at my leisure.
As for you, how about you watch it instead of that episode of Friends, Seinfeld or The Simpsons that you have seen twenty times over…
Chicken and Star(War)s
For those that liked the previous aside for the Robot Chicken Star Wars Parody, I have two more for you courtesy of Jeanne’s son Eddie. I showed him this one and he knew about these other two. The first is another Star Wars parody from Robot Chicken, but centers on the Empire Strikes Back. This was actually one of the skits I had seen on the show before. The other is an animated Star Wars Gangsta Rap that is pretty clever.
Robot Chicken Star Wars
I don’t troll YouTube looking for shiznit that makes me blow milk thru my nose. I’ll leave that to JPo and JDo. What I do is read other bloggers that do and steal their linkage. I’ve watched parts of Robot Chicken a few times and it is hit or miss. This one is a hit, so make sure you watch it to the end for the good stuff.
Reynolds Tossed
I was pretty bummed out to hear that Harold Reynolds was fired by ESPN earlier in the week. Besides Peter Gammons, Harold was my favorite part of watching Baseball Tonight. When they had Karl Ravech, Bobby Valentine (or Buck Showalter), Harold and Peter on all at the same time, it was must-watch because they had a great dynamic.
The show hasn’t quite been the same since Buck or Bobby got back to managing and we now have to deal with John Kruk. Peter had already been increasingly absent and this year was doing the Sunday game of the week before his aneurysm, so I had already been missing the show more often than not. The guys they have been bringing in have, well… let’s just say are very boring and suck.
Anyway, I obviously thought Harold brought a lot to the table and I’m pretty sure I’ll watch even less than I already was now that he is gone too. Reporting on the exact cause has been spotty at best, but according to Harold himself, it was for ... Continue reading »
I Want My HDTV
So, I won this award at work that allows me to pick something out of a catalog to reward all my hard work for whatever the heck they think I did. It’s a tiered award strategy and this one came in just above the middle for a value of around $500-600. Unfortunately for me, the next two above allowed for a cash payout option, but not this one.
So, I took a look at what was available for that tier and there wasn’t really anything that interested me. I have pretty much all the toys I want and if there’s one I don’t have, I just haven’t gotten around to getting it yet. Not bragging, that’s just the way it is. Most of my friends have a house and kids and I have an apartment and toys. I’d trade for the other were it possible.
Anyway, after finding there was pretty much nothing that interested me, I soon forgot about it. A little over a month goes by and the boss man drops by to remind me that the award runs out... Continue reading »

Survival of the Stupidest
You know, when I first read about the plan for the next Survivor to be a battle of the races in this past week’s Entertainment Weekly, I thought it was pretty ignorant and stupid. I am shocked that CBS signed off on this, but then I remembered that TV is getting more and more stupid with gimmicks to grab ratings. Maybe they think it was safer to try this with one of their top shows rather than some other new or lower rated show.
Now we are starting to see some of the fall out from this decision and I applaud GM for dropping their sponsorship. They may say it is coincidence, but I’m not buying it. The show is too high profile and high rated to pull your sponsorship for it. If CBS and the show’s producers really wanted to bring more diversity to the show, which was already pretty diverse in comparison to regular TV, then they should have just mixed up the teams rather than putting them against each other. With 20 people, i... Continue reading »
