Firefox Day

Firefox Day

Am I late to this party or what? Feh, for fun I *enlightened* my alter-ego Ryan Coulton. I didn’t want to spam anyone real, but I do recommend you download Firefox and give it a shot anyway. Heck, spam someone if you want your name in lights.

It is more secure than IE6 and renders my blog (and others) better too. Can’t wait to see how Firefox 2 and IE7 will match up as IE7 looks to be a huge improvement over IE6. I have been running IE7 beta 3 for a while and it is pretty good.

33

This is kind of a sad story. It would seem that the Budwater bastards have bought Latrobe Brewing Co., the makers of Rolling Rock. While I haven’t been drinking it for the last few years, I was still a fan and would have one from time to time. I think I’ll stand with the natives of Latrobe and boycott the NJ brewed version.

Yellow Floyd

Without much US fan-fare, Floyd Landis won the first post-Lance Armstrong Tour de France today. Check out this nicely written article on ESPN.

Floyd is an American rider, so that has to have the French (and the rest of Europe) hopping mad. They are finally rid of Lance and another Yank wins it. Of course, Floyd did win without some of the stronger riders not riding due to a drug/doping scandal. However, who’s to say they were strong and clean. Anyway, congratulations are in order and I’m sure the victory was even sweeter since he was riding with an arthritic hip that he’ll now have surgery on.

Update here

Wasting the Day Away

It is probably only fair that I waste 2 hours a day at work considering it takes me 3+ hours a day to get to and from the office. I do think 2 hours is a bit high though. Maybe 1 hour… of course, I could be saying that to CYA and it is really 3 hours!

Veto This!

As soon as I read this passed today, I knew Bush would veto it. That clown has his religious beliefs all up in our grills again and it is going to cost the research community.

Never mind that “opinion polls show strong public support” for the expansion of research. Hey, our majority public vote didn’t want him in office and yet, we still have him, so I guess that’s the way these things go. Let’s not put our best efforts forward to cure many diseases on the basis of religious morality. The little embryos will never become babies, but they can’t serve a greater purpose either.

I am definitely not a political person, and I will almost never comment on it, but this just gets me boiling. I just had to get it off my chest. I surely hope a donkey wins in 2008, because I’m fed up with this shiznit.

The Mini-shows are Coming

As I alluded to in my previous aside, you need to start preparing for new ways to have advertising in your face in the TiVo age. Here’s another bright idea from some other stupid executive somewhere in La-la land. It really is only a matter of time before they start showing ads during the show or as a ticker down the bottom…

ABC Executive on Crack

You know, it’s a bit too late in the game to start thinking this way, but this stupid ABC asshat believes consumers see the fast forward on a DVR/TiVo/Media Center as “gravy.” What crack is he smoking? It’s a feature and they find a way to hobble it, I am going to be pissed. Of course, then they might start running ads and popups and crap during the show. Another example of the geniuses running Hollywood.

Hey, why don’t you just take away my remote altogether. I mean, it’s just gravy that I don’t have to get up and press the buttons on the box. I’m sure the television manufacturers will go for that too.

Watchmen

News about the Watchmen film adaptation in this week’s Entertainment Weekly:

The on-again, off-again film version of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ classic comic is on again, with director Zack Snyder, who’s got one graphic-novel adaptation — the just-wrapped 300 — under his belt.

I’m sure if they ever get it made, Moore won’t want his name attached. At least I already own the GN, so I can read this one ahead of time.

I should maybe read 300 since it’s yet another Frank Miller GN…

Pearl Jammed

Live at Easy Street album cover

Yesterday, the OB1og got hit pretty good — for me anyway — by a bunch of Pearl Jam fanatics after someone posted links to my two PJ posts on the pearljam.com forums. Seems like those that posted back came away with the idea I hate PJ. What up with that?

So, I registered for the forum so I could post a response, but it took 24 hours to finally get thru moderation, etc. Anyway, read for yourself here…

Also, I’m listening to Live at Easy Street as I type this. This is the disc with the John Doe appearance; it is pretty good and cheap to boot.

Gammons Update

Read this from Gordon Edes on boston.com today:

According to an ESPN executive who spoke with Peter Gammons’ wife Gloria today, the ESPN baseball analyst continues to progress. There has been improvement “in both his motor skills and cognitive ability.” He even joked at one point, “I have to write.”

This is good news and it’s good to read that Peter seems to be in good spirits. I haven’t picked up his album, Never Slow Down, Never Grow Old, that came out this week yet. I figure I’ll pick it up next week when the new Butch Walker disc drops.

I’m sure Peter will also be excited, as am I, that Pete Yorn has his new disc, Nightcrawler, dropping on August 29th according to this week’s Newbury Comics mail list. It has been too long.
