My Jimmy Fund Challenge

For the last few years, I have donated to the Jimmy Fund during their annual Radio-Telethon. The 2006 telethon is this Friday, August 18th. So, this year I thought I would try something different and challenge all my friends to do the same.

My challenge is if you donate this year, I’ll match your donation up to $50. So, if you donate $25, I’ll increase my donation by $25. You donate $50, I’ll donate $50 more. You donate $100, I’ll donate $50 more. In this way, I’ll act much like your company matching 401k where your donation becomes double… or something like that.

Remember that your donation is tax deductible and donating couldn’t be easier. Simply go to their special telethon website and click the link to make a gift. Based on the form, it would seem $25 is the minimum gift. If you want to make a smaller gift, you let me know and I’ll make up the difference and give you that cash.

If you are interested in meeting my... Continue reading »

I, Crisis

Infinite Crisis #1 (Jim Lee cover)I got myself into a bit of a fracas with Jason over at BBn earlier this week — okay, this past weekend — with respect to fanboys. I seem to have found myself bashing the Momma’s basement dwellars when it comes to defending this Summer’s Superman Returns. You can read more about that over on the BBn post, but it did get me thinking on continuity in comics.

Okay, so many of you just read that last sentence and started thinking you might stop reading this particular post. Well, I don’t blame you. If you don’t really have an interest in comic books, then this post probably isn’t for you. If you have an interest in bashing fanboys, then this pos... Continue reading »

Iron Man

See the larger version on marvel.com

Iron Man could be Marvel’s next good superhero movie franchise. I’m very excited about Jon Favreau’s involvement. Interesting that this says it is in conjunction with Avi Arad’s new production company. I was just reading in this month’s Wizard that he signed a non-compete with Marvel, although he’s still working with them in an advisory capacity. They also had an article with Favreau on Iron Man. Check out Brian Michael Bendis’ column/interviews while you are there. He’s a fave.

Anyway, the poster alone looks better than that crap Ghost Rider trailer…

Black Floyd

Well, that takes care of that I guess. Floyd Landis’ “B” sample was found to have the same synthetic testosterone as his “A” sample. It’s a real shame that this has happened, especially since before this year’s Tour started a lot of the favorites were pulled due to a doping scandal.

I understand the doping we see in MLB and other professional sports where there is a lot of money on the line, but in professional cycling, are we really talking that much money? I don’t get it.

Now we’ll just wait to see if Floyd is stripped of his win, which he certainly should be.

About Last Night

I was bored sitting around the home-office during an application release for work, so I did some other stuff after writing the My Friend Flickr post. Now you have this little Aside to enlighten you some more.

I updated my About page to add my “plane struck by lightning” experience (surprised I forgot to add it originally since I seem to be a lightning rod) and another paragraph about school fun facts.

I also added a new Colophon page. Enjoy! (I sure did)

Stars and Stripes

First off, everyone celebrate! This is my 100th Post or Page in the OB1og. That’s probably 50 more than I thought I’d get to at this point, but I guess a good chunk — 44 at current count — are just Asides, so maybe I am half-fluff.

Okay, the real point of this post is to point out to you that I have been making some adjustments to my Flickr photostream over the last month or so. Ever since I have upgraded to a Pro account, I have been playing with more features. I recently, as in today, decided to mark some photos as viewable by Friends, Family or Friends & Family only.

What does that mean to you? Well, if you aren’t one of... Continue reading »

Snap Grackle Pop

photo by Jim Davis of the Boston Globe

You know, I was pretty sure that fruitcake Dr. Charles was responsible for the music at Fenway, but this article on boston.com confirmed it for me. I did comment to Joe that they should have played “The Bird is the Word,” but I didn’t know The Rivingtons by name.

Gordon Edes couldn’t find out what happened to the little guy. I’m sure he’s trying to be funny with his David Wells comment, but I am not amused. However, Jeff Horrigan over at the Boston Herald came thru with news on his f... Continue reading »

Firefox Day

Firefox Day

Am I late to this party or what? Feh, for fun I *enlightened* my alter-ego Ryan Coulton. I didn’t want to spam anyone real, but I do recommend you download Firefox and give it a shot anyway. Heck, spam someone if you want your name in lights.

It is more secure than IE6 and renders my blog (and others) better too. Can’t wait to see how Firefox 2 and IE7 will match up as IE7 looks to be a huge improvement over IE6. I have been running IE7 beta 3 for a while and it is pretty good.

Black Bird Steals Second

This just in: Jason Johnson still sucks.

So I attended tonight’s Sox game vs. the Tribe and the Sox dropped it 6-3 in the very sweltering heat. They couldn’t do much of anything against CC Sabathia who was throwing 98 mph heat himself and only gave up a Mark Lorretta homer off the Fisk foul pole in left. Not until the ninth did the Sox tack on two more runs with an Alex Gonzalez bomb into the Monstah Seats… or, maybe it was over them, but at that point it didn’t much matter unless we could make it to Papi, which they didn’t.

You may remember I posted about David Ortiz here and here back in June. Well, Big Papi has done it again with two walk-off hits, including a 3-run bomb last night, in his past three games prior to tonight. You think Indians manager Eric Wedge second guessed his decision to pitch to Ortiz? I’m... Continue reading »

‘Til Tuesday

I was having a hard time with a title for this post, so I went with ‘Til Tuesday because I can’t wait for Tuesday. A few things are going happen on Tuesday. It’s the start of August and I’ll be going to the Sox game with Joe, but most importantly, I am going to have me some coffee.

Yup, I’m done with my coffee *boycott* and will be back on the wagon after a five week layoff. I am going to celebrate with a large iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts in the afternoon. I think I am going to continue to not drink it in the morning though. I don’t know why either. What do you think?

So, you all remember ‘Til Tuesday right? A band out of Boston that hit in the late 80’s with “Voices Carry” and fronted by the beautiful and talented Aimee Mann? Well, my Uncle Chris likes to recount the tale that I once held the back door open for her and the band at the In-Square Men’s Bar which used to be in Cambridge. I was most likely in the back playing Star War... Continue reading »
