Sports
Posts about real or fantasy sports. Fantasy because I can’t play real sports, or rather, don’t. Usually Red Sox or Patriots related.
Lazy Foxboro
I’m sure it has nothing to do with skit from that show I don’t watch — I’m only aware of it from watching The Office — but it sums up the point pretty well. I don’t even remember when I promised to get these up, but the photos I took at the Pats playoff game against the Jets on January 7th are finally on flickr. My laziness is to blame for the delay.
I think the biggest problem with something like this is taking the time to sort thru all the shots taken and then taking some time to crop or adjust them. Well, remembering how long it took me last time, I kept putting it off and I really need to get better about this if I am to be serious about it being a part of this blog.
I took 462 shots at the Jets game, which is roughly twice what I took at the Colts game in November. Trimming that down to the 87 shots I posted in the photo set was very time consuming… and then deciding if I wanted to edit them or not… and then actually doing it… and then uploading them… and then giving them name, descriptions and tagging ... Sox tix raffle
Registration is open for the annual raffle process for the opportunity to purchase Monstah, Right Field Roof, Opening Day and Yankee tickets. There’s some question as to whether the registration closes on Monday or Tuesday depending on if the e-mail I got or the reg page is the correct information.
If you win, remember who told you…
Not-so-evil empire
This is a comment meant for The Mayor of Man Town is a Chick on the Ed Zone, but it is masquerading as a post here on OB1og.
Why?
Well, just because I haven’t been very active here this month, for much the same reasons as Ed, and the comment was long enough to consider as a post in its own right. Maybe…
Jason had the same thought, so now there are twin comment threads on the Zone and BBn. I won’t drop this over there though.
What I really owe my six dear readers are the photos I took at the Pats/Jets playoff game a few weeks ago. I haven’t gotten around to slamming them into Flickr yet. I’ll do my best to get that done this weekend.
Anyway, on to what I was going to drop as a comment:
As Bill Simmons aptly put it in When did hate tak... Continue reading »
Phootball Fotography
Here’s yet another thing I am late with, but with good reason. It takes a long time to go thru 300+ photos that I shot at the game. Then, you have to some adjustments to each with respect to the lighting and sharpness before finally cropping them. I never do any of this with my other stuff, but it seems very necessary with sports photography.
I have to tell you, this has to be the hardest stuff to shoot. I suppose that’s why sports photographers make a good sack of coin and run about the sidelines with $10-20k of equipment hanging from their bodies. You only have one chance to get the shot. I’m pretty sure I didn’t get any, but I’ll keep trying. If you want to see what I did get, here’s the photo set.
You know what? Maybe weddings are harder to shoot because you... Continue reading »
Yankees Choke… Again
I think it is about time we finally retire the “Yankees Suck” chant in favor of a “Yankees Choke” chant. While losing their ALDS series to the Tigers in four isn’t nearly the cataclysmic choke that was their 2004 ALCS loss to the Sox, it is pretty pathetic for a $200 million plus payroll team chock full of All-Stars, especially since the Yankees owned them in the regular season (5-2).
Does anyone want A-Rod? This guy might as well just play it out for a perennial basement dweller like the Rays, Royals or Pirates. At least he could switch back to playing shortstop. The shame of this is that Torre will most likely lose his job and that is undeserved. I don’t think it is his fault a clubhouse of millionaire All-Star babies can’t get the job done. It is the fault of ownership for pushing that the team be made up that way.
Georgie Porgie still doesn’t get it; you can’t buy a frickin championship…
Bucked by Zebras
I know this is probably a day or two late, but I got caught up in watching the telly on Monday night and I just wasn’t up for posting immediately upon returning home from the game on Sunday night. The good news is this is just a short post. The bad news is the Pats lost the game, but you already knew that.
That there picture was taken by my shiny new Motorola Razr. Yup, that’s the highest setting and resolution, resized down and trimmed to fit here. Looks like crap, no? Well, that’s because it is. I wonder why they even bother with the cameras in the phones. They all suck. My old phone took slightly more crappy photos than this one (remember the shot of the grackle?). I understand that distance shots won’t be great, but c’mon, that is some bad stuff. I guess it will take a couple more years. Not the... Continue reading »
Falling Away With You
Wouldn’t you say it is rather ironic that while I was writing my Summer wrap-ups last week it was feeling like Autumn and as I write my Autumn preview this week it has felt like Summer? I guess that’s how we roll here in New England.
Has the wacky weather been a contributing factor in the huge downturn in readers over the past few weeks here at OB1og as well? Certainly can’t be because I haven’t been posting like Ed or Jason. Of course, Ed isn’t posting for a good reason and then there is Jason not posting for a secret... Continue reading »
Peter is Back!
He’s only part-time, but I am so happy to see this day. Peter Gammons is one of my favorite writers of all time, and I’m not just talking sports. I shed a couple tears reading his piece, “One of the luckiest people on the earth.” You should read it too.
I’m sorry I wasn’t home to see him on air. Hopefully they’ll repeat tonight.
Summer Shudder
Well, the title of this post should have been the title of the previous post, but I just wasn’t paying close enough attention. A lot of the time I try to come up with clever titles that play on words and stuff like that and I am sure I am not in the minority there. Look no further than Ed as he consistently comes up with great title posts. Then you have Jason, who usually has me running straight for dictionary.com.
However, when I’m not feeling clever, I try to find a song title that fits my posting topic in some way. Well, I got stuck on Consumed Summer because I was going to write about stuff... Continue reading »
Kennedy Costume Races
Over on ESPN’s Page 2, Jim Caple says we need more costume races in MLB and he has ideas for everyone.
For the hometown team:
Boston. Kennedy Races. “JFK, RFK and Jackie O are neck and neck, but oh, no — it looks like Teddy took another wrong turn at the bridge.”
