Year in consumables: 2006 games
Promises, promises…
You know, I said I’d have this posted by March first, but things got out of hand at work this week due to Daylight Savings Time. You know about that, right? Well, work got in the way of proper sleep, television viewing — ‘cept Lost and Heroes — and blogging.
So, I won’t bore you with the details of that, but instead bore you with the third and final installment of my 2006 Year in Consumables series. You can read the music and movie posts in the archives.
By my count, I have rocked se7en games on the 360 this year. Okay, it was really ten, but demos of Contra and the... Continue reading »
Mii in real 3D
An interesting item in the Engadget feed today is about some clever artist making a friend’s Mii a reality. Can’t you just see Ed ordering up his family and putting them on the mantle???
U, U, D, D, L, R, L, R, A, B, Select, Start
I just picked up the new Deftones disc tonight and it is the title of the sixth track. I’m sure some of you can easily identify where that title originated. Freakin cool…
RvB: Season 5
As a registered user, I got a little e-mail from Rooster Teeth on Tuesday to give some discount code for use in their store this holiday season.
“Hmm…” I thought, I haven’t been over there since the last season finished up. Let’s see whud up.
Well, whud up is Season 5 started at the end of September!
What, what, what???
That’s right, I’ve been missing out and so have you! If you count yourself as a Halo fan, you should be following what these guys do…
Halo Wars
There’s actually a cool little video trailer out there for it and a web site. If your rig can handle the 720p version, I highly recommend it. Some excellent rendering and sound there.
The Halo Effect
I’m sure all my gamer readers, all two of you, have already read about this, but just in case, more Halo games on the way. I wonder if the Age of Empires developer’s game will be like that where you build up a side, human or Covenant, and then try to take over. Could be good, but then again, I get bored of those types of games quickly.
Xbox 360 in 1080p
Paul Thurrott has an item on WinInfo about Microsoft releasing the HD DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 for only $170 this Fall. What is more interesting to me is that a 360 firmware update will boost the max resolution of the 360 from 1080i to 1080p. This is news, and as Paul says, the last big differentiator between PS3 and the 360.
Is Sony further doomed? Not in the least. The Sony zealots will still shell out gobs of cake for a PS3, but Microsoft just made their argument even more compelling. I’m just a little happier in that this will help justify buying a 1080p HD set when I get a big one soonish. Even though television programming won’t be broadcast at that level for years to come, at least there could be some earlier benefit in the greater cost over the 720p sets. As it stands now, it’s about an $800 difference for the size set I am looking at. I bet the earliest we see a 1080p game is late 2007 though.
Falling Away With You
Wouldn’t you say it is rather ironic that while I was writing my Summer wrap-ups last week it was feeling like Autumn and as I write my Autumn preview this week it has felt like Summer? I guess that’s how we roll here in New England.
Has the wacky weather been a contributing factor in the huge downturn in readers over the past few weeks here at OB1og as well? Certainly can’t be because I haven’t been posting like Ed or Jason. Of course, Ed isn’t posting for a good reason and then there is Jason not posting for a secret... Continue reading »
Sam and Max
I was going thru some links that I haven’t visited in a while and one of them happened to be the Sam & Max web comic. It’s hosted by the Telltale Games folks who are busy on making a new web-based Sam & Max game.
Since I posted an Aside about the comic in April, there have been updates for July and August. There is more updated content available on the Telltale site and blog like Sam & Max spill out onto the Internet. Explore the site for more.
The coolest thing is probably the ability to make your own Sam &... Continue reading »
‘Til Tuesday
I was having a hard time with a title for this post, so I went with ‘Til Tuesday because I can’t wait for Tuesday. A few things are going happen on Tuesday. It’s the start of August and I’ll be going to the Sox game with Joe, but most importantly, I am going to have me some coffee.
Yup, I’m done with my coffee *boycott* and will be back on the wagon after a five week layoff. I am going to celebrate with a large iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts in the afternoon. I think I am going to continue to not drink it in the morning though. I don’t know why either. What do you think?
So, you all remember ‘Til Tuesday right? A band out of Boston that hit in the late 80’s with “Voices Carry” and fronted by the beautiful and talented Aimee Mann? Well, my Uncle Chris likes to recount the tale that I once held the back door open for her and the band at the In-Square Men’s Bar which used to be in Cambridge. I was most likely in the back playing Star War... Continue reading »
