Falling Away With You

Casino Royale teaster posterWouldn’t you say it is rather ironic that while I was writing my Summer wrap-ups last week it was feeling like Autumn and as I write my Autumn preview this week it has felt like Summer? I guess that’s how we roll here in New England.

Has the wacky weather been a contributing factor in the huge downturn in readers over the past few weeks here at OB1og as well? Certainly can’t be because I haven’t been posting like Ed or Jason. Of course, Ed isn’t posting for a good reason and then there is Jason not posting for a secret... Continue reading »

Peter is Back!

He’s only part-time, but I am so happy to see this day. Peter Gammons is one of my favorite writers of all time, and I’m not just talking sports. I shed a couple tears reading his piece, “One of the luckiest people on the earth.” You should read it too.

I’m sorry I wasn’t home to see him on air. Hopefully they’ll repeat tonight.

Fanboy Fodder 9.2

Wolverine: Origins #6 cover (Joe Q version)Didn’t I write just last time out that it was unlikely I’d buy another week of comics and be able to read them all? Well, it’s still true, but this week was a close one… and by one, I mean there was only one Civil War (CW) tie-in that I couldn’t read. The comic store had a CW postcard dropped in the bad and it looks like they are readjusting the schedule slightly due to late books and also adding on the end. Sucker isn’t finishing up until at least February at this point.

So, pulling out that CW issue — Ms. Marvel #7 — leaves me with six comics to review again. Now that I have pretty much gotten thru a month of introductions, I’ll be shortening the blurbs. Sounds like a good reason, but really, I’m feeling lazy and would rather not write much about them.

Wolverine: Origins #6 I hate to lead with this one, but it ... Continue reading »

My Syndication

I am very excited for this Fall’s new TV season right now, and not just because new TV is starting up. The other reason is I have found that Scrubs is being shown on Channel 56 at 12.30 am and they have started with the Season 1 Pilot last night. This is awesome as I get to watch the old episodes in a row to start the season off.

But, it gets better. Comedy Central has also picked up the rights and are showing TWO episodes a night at 7.00 and 7.30 pm. They also started with Season 1, so they are already four episodes in as I write this. Media Center has them locked in so I can watch them at my leisure.

As for you, how about you watch it instead of that episode of Friends, Seinfeld or The Simpsons that you have seen twenty times over…

Summer Shudder

Nantucket Sound Sunset Well, the title of this post should have been the title of the previous post, but I just wasn’t paying close enough attention. A lot of the time I try to come up with clever titles that play on words and stuff like that and I am sure I am not in the minority there. Look no further than Ed as he consistently comes up with great title posts. Then you have Jason, who usually has me running straight for dictionary.com.

However, when I’m not feeling clever, I try to find a song title that fits my posting topic in some way. Well, I got stuck on Consumed Summer because I was going to write about stuff... Continue reading »

Kennedy Costume Races

Over on ESPN’s Page 2, Jim Caple says we need more costume races in MLB and he has ideas for everyone.

For the hometown team:

Boston. Kennedy Races. “JFK, RFK and Jackie O are neck and neck, but oh, no — it looks like Teddy took another wrong turn at the bridge.”

Consumed Summer

Well, Labor Day is in the rear view mirror, football season has started and the hot coffee to iced coffee ratio is starting to go up. Even though Autumn doesn’t officially start until next week, it sure has felt like it for a while now. I’m sure that has more to do with the terrible weather we have had since August — I think last Saturday was the first day I had the top down on the Jeep since early-to-mid August — than the rapid fall from the playoff chase of the Sox, but I have been anxious for the Fall as it is my favorite season of the year. However, before I go on about that, I thought it would be nice to do a wrap-up of Summer consumables like music, movies, sports and whatever else that sticks out. For the sake of most things, I am going to go with the unofficial dates of Summer and say it starts Memorial Day weekend and ends Labor Day weekend (when it comes to movies, the studios want you to believe Summer starts May 1st). Anyway, between that time I consumed 29 discs and half of them stand out in my mind for different reasons. Five for being incredibly... Continue reading »

Lego Chain Gun

I remember Joe posted some interesting Lego stuff on Scooby awhile back, but this thing kicks any of those things asses as far as I can remember. Check out the description on Engadget and scroll down for the YouTube video.

Fall Fantasy Sports

Well, the new season of fantasy sports started today, which also means the new season of a real sport started today. Of course, that sport is football and your New England Patriots survived a close game with the Buffalo Bills to win 19-17. I’ll tell you, I wasn’t feeling real confident after the Bills were up 7-0 after 12 seconds of play, but Tom Terrific marched them down the field on the next possession to tie it up. Maroney looked pretty good. Dillon better watch his back. At least they started off with a win.

As for my fantasy squad, well they didn’t fair so well. Looks like I won’t be starting off with a win. Carson Palmer laid a big egg today, so that’s pretty much what is killing me right now. Travis Henry getting the TD touches instead of Chris Brown also does not help. For those that are interested, here’s my team:

  • QB: Carson Palmer, Jake Delhomme
  • RB: Edgerrin James, Willis McGahee, Chris Brown, Cedric Benson
  • WR: Marvin Harrison, Hines Ward, Muhsin Muhammad, Laveranues Coles, Ben Watson, Mark Clayton

Fanboy Fodder 9.1

X-Men: Phoenix: Warsong #1 cover (Silvestri version)Quite possibly the first week ever that I read all the books I picked up. I’m sure it has a lot to do with only buying six books total. I resisted the urge to pick up G.I. Joe: Scarlett Declassified. While the Snake Eyes Declassified mini was good, I don’t think this one would be as good and especially not for $5 a pop.

Out of curiosity, and a Michael Turner cover, I picked up Justice League of America #0 which must have a come out a few weeks ago. It gave quick clips of JLA history, but wasn’t easy to understand if you don’t know it, so I think they failed in their goal because I didn’t get it. Then again, they did get my money, so maybe they succeeded…

X-Men: Phoenix: Warsong #1 The first issue in a five issue mini that looks to pick up where the Endsong mini left off… I guess. You can see the Marc Silvest... Continue reading »
