Sports

Posts about real or fantasy sports. Fantasy because I can’t play real sports, or rather, don’t. Usually Red Sox or Patriots related.

Ill communication

I just listened to Ill Communication on my way home from work tonight. I left at 9.00p. I realized that it would be a great title for a blog post, so…

I was at work for the second night in a row until 9p, so that’s ill. I have gone just over a month without posting, so that’s ill. If I went a calendar month without a post, that would be ill… therefore, here’s your fluff piece to put a stop to that.

Seriously though, I intimated in the last real post that I’d fill in blanks later, so I guess this is it. I think that blogging during the summer can be a bit tough when you don’t have some regular topic to shout about. I definitely have never had that, so it is here and there. Well, weekends are straight out because the last thing I want is to be in front of a keyboard on a weekend. Weeknights have also been straight out because I have been getting home late most nights and since those are due to work, I have had enough of the keyboard for a day. When not, I want to spend it on the couch in front of the 360 for a game or catch up on su... Continue reading »

Buh bye

Won’t have to hear that much longer… unless she turns up on ESPN.

That’s right, Hazel Mae is goners. Buh bye bombs. She might have burst onto the scene four years ago, but she became old news in my book soon after. By burst, I mean I never cared about her until that Fever Pitch premiere dress she was wearing. That was the event, right? Yup, I found myself prone to become a typical male and stare in awe at her… well… you know. It was quickly downhill from there.

Anyway, shocked to read that she dated doughboy Steve Levy… was she trying to sleep her way into ESPN? Leave it to the Inside Track to give us the good stuff. Ricky Davis? Really? Huh… wait a minute… did Perez Hilton take over this blog???

I find it funny that I got to that Herald story from bos... Continue reading »

No-no

Wow!

I mean… WOW!

This kid is special, right? Completes the sweep for the second Sox Series and now a no hitter. Wow!

Inspiring stuff. Really. It is hard to come up with the words.

I wish I got to see it. I didn’t watch the game tonight. In fact, I haven’t seen any of the four no-hitters that Varitek has caught. Apparently that’s a record too. However, I did see the first MLB starts for the last two guy’s; Lester and Buchholz. That’s a weird coincidence.

I know someone who had tickets to tonight’s game and decided to sell them because he had already been to like four games in April. Can’t wait to see his reaction. At least he sold them to another guy at work.

Wow!

Nineteen and oh-no…

I wanted to post something yesterday, but didn’t get around to it. Not because I was too mad or anything, just too busy. So busy that I watched CSI: Miami last night, without the sound up… which was a good thing. I hate that show.

Anyway, I just read the following from Coach Belichick in an article on boston.com:

“It’s time to move on,” Belichick said. “I’m not going to sit here and dwell on anything, good or bad, that happened in the past. It is what it is. We played our last game of the ’07 season.”

I love this guy. So nonchalant, right? Yeah, but he’s got to be raging inside. If he were able, you’d think he’d have his secondary out on the practice field yesterday, in full pads and working on their mistakes, but alas, that will have to wait until the first mini-camp I guess. They were awful for the entire p... Continue reading »

On Johan

I’m glad it is finally over.

The Mets probably got a helluva a deal and they probably needed him the most. Santana will probably finish the year with a sub 1.00 ERA and 300 K’s in the National League and that is fine by me. I’m glad that Theo didn’t blow the payroll on this guy, regardless of whether or not you consider him the best pitcher in baseball, no one is worth that money, never mind the prospects. Ellsbury patrolling center with Lester and Buchholz battling for the fifth starter spot? I’ll take that and the financial flexibility to keep pace with the trimming down Yankees, who also didn’t blow their wad on Johan.

At first, I hated the thought of giving up Lester or Jacoby, but when whispers from scouts about Santana’s second half started to pop up, I got even more fearful. I hope he’s fine and continues his awesome career with excellent health. In the NL.

Sorry to all you Twins fans in that your new GM overplayed his... Continue reading »

No bowling

In case you were wondering about my Super Bowl status, you can wonder no more. No super bowling for me. I figured you didn’t figure it out from the silence, so I’d tell you. Heck, that’s better than what Jay and I got, but I’m not complaining. We never heard back from his friend with the tix and that leaves us to both assume it didn’t happen. Either that, or he ain’t tellin and is instead sellin dem tix on the craigslist or ebays.

Anyway, just as well cuz now I won’t miss the commercials… wait… they sucked last year, right? Actually, hasn’t that been a trend? Oh wait… I didn’t even watch it last year… I think. Yeah, I don’t think I watched much anyway… can’t watch Peyton. Let me see if I posted about it…

Yep… a little bit. I posted a comment as a post. What what what? Just go read it if you are curious. I may have said if I watched it or not on a comment at the... Continue reading »

Seventeen

I posted some photos [slideshow] from Saturday’s playoff win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. I took it easy on you and only posted 33, or the just over 400 frames I fired off. That’s a ~55 percent drop off from my last set, so you should have no problem zipping thru them. Right?

Anyway, seventeen and Oh baby! and… yes… I went to the game… I know people.

Not really… but, it is funny how many people wonder just that when you tells them you went to the game.

Well, guess what… I am going again this week and… knock on a lot of wood — how about an everwood tree — and wish me good luck… the Super Bowl. Of course, our source has to win the ticket lottery and oh… the Pats need to get past the Bolts too. He’s been 0-3 so far, so maybe we’ll luck out... Continue reading »

Lensgate

It is only fitting that I finally write this post the week of the expected decimation of the New York J-E-T-S! Jets! Jets! Jets! Oh yeah… you know that’s going to happen (short of Tom Brady getting hit by the short bus).

So, the name of this post is Lensgate and I’m guessing you might wonder why. (Hey Ed, at least I procrastinated so long it is now “topical” again.) It does have something to do with the first Pat’s game against the Jets, but that was Videogate or Spygate or whatevergate. I actually hate that we name every conspiracy since Watergate — Contragate being the first I can remember — with a “gate” at the end. I just think it is media silliness… which is an oxymoron. Continuing on… naming this with a “gate” on the end of the title lends itself well to the preposterousness that is this story… and I am getting there, believe me.

So, I attended the Pat’s home opener against the San Diego Chargers. Of course, this was the game after the Jets game and everyone was excited... Continue reading »

Not Rocktober… Soxtober!

Not that you had time to notice, but the Colorado club fancied October as Rocktober. I think they may have succeeded in copyrighting or trademarking it. Well, we all knew it was really Soxtober, right? No one gave up on the (tied-for) best team in baseball, right?

Well, I can’t figure out if I did or not. I’m thinking not… or, at least not like in the 2004 ALCS. Yeah, I skipped watching a couple games against the Tribe, but one was on purpose and another because of work (the 2nd Beckett gem). I did see Game 6 though and of course, Game 7 following Mookie’s wedding.

Anyway, there wasn’t much doubt as soon as they got passed Cleveland. The Rox were on an incredible run, but you knew it would end when they reached an AL team, no? I never thought they were going to beat the Jake Peavy and the Padres in the one game playoff. Then I thought they’d meet their match in the just-as-hot Phillies, but no, the swept those fools. The Diamondbacks?... Continue reading »

We make soxytime

Well, other than dropping post-length comments on Ed’s blog, I haven’t posted anything here until now. That’s part lazy blogger and part didn’t-have-to because Ed did. Now that we are headed to the World Series again, I think the time has come to at least acknowledge it here.

So, let me start by saying “I told you so.” Sox in seven baby!

Hey, and that is never mind defending Drew — ask Ed or Noelle, I basically called JD’s shot — or agreeing on Ellsbury or… hey, that’s enough. The ALCS was a great series, just like I knew it would be. Of course, I’m happier that the Sox pulled it out, but had the Indians held on, props to them too. After all, they won as many games as the Sox did this year and beat a Yankees team that was probably better (at the time) than the Angels team we faced.

As for facing... Continue reading »
